Giving A Voice To Those Who Feel Silenced

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

There once was a boy who was very shy and quiet. He was the smallest in his class and the youngest in the family. Every time he tried to ask a question or share about his day, he was either faced with being talked over or told to wait until later to share. This boy was very soft spoken but everytime he tried to speak, his parents would ignore him and his siblings would talk for him.

Do you feel like you have a story but you do not know how to share it? Giving a voice to those who feel silenced is for anyone who has ever felt silenced. What does it mean to be silenced? Being silenced is when situations occur in which can literally take your instinctual ability to utilize your voice. Oftentimes, we are silenced by our trauma; whether abuse, back to back loss, or being the youngest in our family, we all have a God-given voice.

Trauma is so layered, and unfortunately, a lot of times, we will suffer in silence, hints feeling silenced. Many times, the shame or the guilt of trauma can numb us. That is when we feel we no longer have a voice! Another barrier that can silence us is experiencing multiple losses. From the death of a relationship to the loss of a loved one, when tragedy strikes back to back, we again fall into the habit of suffering in silence. Lastly, this is a personal example for me as I am the youngest of nine. As the youngest, you can feel you have to fight for your voice to be heard. Unfortunately, more times than not, the family will speak for you as a means to protect you when instead they are silencing you.

I want you to know that your voice is important, and it matters! If you are looking for encouragement to step out on faith and use your voice to make a difference, your time is now!
